4 Pitanga: The Tropical Cherry

The pitanga tree (Eugenia uniflora) is a fruit tree native to South America, common in Brazil. It has adapted very well to subtropical climate regions such as Madeira.

In Fajã dos Padres, the pitanga tree finds ideal conditions thanks to the mild climate, balanced humidity, and well-drained, slightly acidic volcanic soils, producing succulent fruits rich in flavour.
